Integrated circuit industry and microelectronic scientific technology are the key fields which the world is competing for the strategic commanding point. The development of integrated circuit industry strongly affects and promotes traditional industries. Holding a very important strategic position in the development of national economy, it is a fundamental guarantee for national security and national defense construction. For the past four decades, the global integrated circuit industry has increased five times faster than GDP. By 2005, China has become the world's largest integrated circuit market. China's integrated circuit industry and microelectronic scientific technology attract further attention.

In order to adapt to the national economic development situation, transfer China from a major consumer of integrated circuit to a powerful nation of this industry and further study the development strategy and measures of both fields, Microelectronics Development Strategy Lab of Peking University was established in April 2005 under the support of Wang Yangyuan and with the advantages of the Institute of Microelectronics (IME) and School of Software and Microelectronics (SSM) of Peking University.

Under the guidance of Wang Yangyuan, Microelectronics Development Strategy Lab has a rigorous and innovative style of doing scientific research, taking an active part in carrying out interdisciplinary research of microelectronic field. We are carrying out these researches:
